Corey Keating's Home Page

Welcome!

Welcome to coreykeating.com! This is my personal website to share with you different aspects of my life, along with photos and links to my other websites.

The picture you see above was taken in 2004 at Comox BC (on Vancouver Island in Canada) when Jeanette and I were doing a week-long sailing trip in Desolation Sound, British Columbia. Please see the Photos page if you want to see some photos taken from that trip.

Back from "2010 Short Term Mission/ Working Vacation" in Poland - July-Aug. 2010

We had a very worthwhile time at GEM's annual conference this year in Poland. We helped about 75 missionaries by either fixing their computers from specific problems, doing a general tune-up to speed up their computer, or help them in their transition to GEM's new email and document sharing system. You can read about our experiences "as they happened" at this blog: http://gemac2010.mark5ministries.org

I have posted some pictures related to this trip in the photos section of this website. Please click on the photos link and chose on the appropriate link, or go directly to Short Term Mission Trip to Poland to help out GEM at their Annual Conference - Aug 2010

After this trip, I am convinced more than ever of the importance and value of providing this service for missionaries. This ministry is becoming a more than just a "summer working vacation" for me. It is something I will be involved with on an ongoing basis. Not only is GEM continuing to use our services during the year, they have already asked us to come back in the summer of 2011.

In order to be able to more efficiently provide technical support for mssionaries in an on-going way, we have formed the non-profit Mark Five organization. You can read more about the meaning, mission, and projects of Mark 5 Ministries at this website. (www.Mark5Ministries.org)

Previous years' Short Term Mission/Working Vacations - Hungary 2008, Czech Republic 2009

In 2008, four of us (associated with Corban College in Salem, OR ) traveled to Sopron, Hungary, (in August, 2008) for a week to provide technical support for the Greater Europe Missions annual conference. It was a great trip and a fantastic opportunity to use our technical support skills to serve the Lord. For a journal and pictures of our trip, please see our blog here: thehungaryproject.blogspot.com . You can see my pictures of the trip in the Photos section of this site.
In 2009, five of us provided Tech Support for the missionaries' laptops; Jeanette and 2 others provided child care to the 3 to 5 year-old children (while the missionaries are in conference sessions). You can read about it at our 2009 blog at: http://gemac2009.markfive.org/

Other Interests and Information

One of my other areas of interest and study is computer security (see tab for page on left). (I am currently working on my Ph.D. in computer information systems with a concentration in computer security.) I also recently started the “Computer Security Northwest” (www.computersecuritynw.com) website to provide security related info. Please also see the tab on Computer Security Tips to see a list of "Essential Security Measures for Home Computers".

Another area of interest is Biblical Greek. I have a bachelor’s degree in Classical Studies (Latin and Greek languages, history, culture, etc) and a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies. I have taught Greek at the college level for about 6 years. I maintain a website that provides resources for learning New Testament Greek. The site is www.ntgreek.org. You can follow the Blog at NTGreek to read tidbits, information, and questions/answers about learning Greek.

To reach me, you can email me at "corey at coreykeating dot com". Cheers! Corey.

Computer Security

Please go to my site www.ComputerSecurityNW.com to find the latest version of my non-technical, easy to read/understand document entitled, "Essential Security Measures for Home Computers". It gives an overview of necessary security technologies and practices for every computer user and has an addendum with further suggestions for small business owners. It also includes other issues related to computer security and disaster recovery, such as a simple method for backing up home computers. You can subscribe to the Security Blog on that site to get important updates and news about relevant security threats (Security Blog).
