The captain and his wife, Jerry and Sarah Burnette.
Jerry worked at Southwestern College (where I used to teach).

The couple that took great pictures and provided great conversations, Jim and Gloria Gabler.
Gloria is in charge of the counseling/psychology department at Southwestern College.

Low tide at the bay in Comox, Vancouver Is., where we leased the 42 foot boat.

The Marina in Comox the day before we left. For Arizonians, it was nice to have a couple days
of coolness and clouds (and sprinkling rain) before it cleared up and got sunny.

At the marina in Comox, a bald eagle spent a lot of time on the mast of the sailboat moored next to us.
I hope he wasn't getting any ideas about one of us becoming his next meal!

A Great Blue Heron also made his home at the marina in Comox.

Optimistic about actually catch some salmon, I was in the boat getting the gear ready after we got underway.
Never had a bite; the only thing we caught this trip were a number of dog fish (mud sharks) and a few crab.

Jeanette was in the bridge looking at the map with captian Jerry Burnette and his wife Sarah.

Jeanette and Sarah taking out the Kayak in Squirrel Cove, where we moored the first night.

Believe it or not, this is a 'tide pool'! Connected to the sound by a 30 foot long, 10 foot wide 'river'
that ran INTO the 'lake' at high tide and OUT at low tide. Obviously the water was salt water; there
were starfish, anenomes, and sea cucumbers in the 'lake' (great snorkling!).
The 'lake/tidepool' is about three times as long as it is across (the narrow view here).

Why row when there is a boat with a motor around?
We were out on a fishing excursion - not a bite.
We eventually bought salmon dinners at Marilyn's Salmon House - great salmon and fantastic blueberry pie.

Some boats tied together, mooring for the night in Squirrel Cove.

This is a picture of our boat, the Crystal Tiger, in Squirrel Cove.

A starfish in the little 'river' that runs into the big tidepool/lake.

n one cove, the water was about 200-400 ft deep just off shore and was 77 degrees! It apparently
was a breeding ground for these jellyfish. Everywhere we looked here we saw hundreds (if not thousands
of them). We didn't go swimming, but a brave soul in a boat next to us did.

Jeanette took this great close-up shot of a jellyfish.

One of the MANY beautiful views of mountains rising up out of the sound.

While cruising the Sound, beautiful views were endless as the weather was clearing up for the week.

A fresh water lake about a 5 minute hike from the Sound.

We all went swimming in the lake; here are Sarah and Jeanette - always the brave ones!

Another beautiful view in Desolation Sound.

The snow covered mountains were stunning!

The early morning calm in one of the bays where we anchored for the night.
We were always fairly close to other boats, but that usually added to the charm of the experience.
![]()
In certain areas we not only had to set the anchor, but needed to tie a stern-line onto a solid object
on the shore to keep the back of the boat from drifting into boats nearby.
Jim and I were the ones elected for the task.

Jeanette and Sarah kayaking again! We all liked this picture because it shows how Sarah was always
dressed for Arctic weather wherever she went, and Jeanette always hoped for warmer days.

The Canadian Geese would go from boat to boat begging for food.
It was one of these days that I saw Jeanette have 'canadian goose bumps' for the first time. ;-)

A Canadian Coast Guard ship we passed.

One of the few pictures both of us. We are on the front of our boat.

We docked right next to a Canadian Navy ship when we hiked to another fresh water lake.
The ship was full of reserves who had been out to sea (in Alaska, etc) for weeks doing training
and were taking a short break to relax. It was fun talking/swimming with them.

A waterfall coming from the freshwater lake. This sailboat was full of people in uniforms,
but we never found out where they were from.

A gorgeous sunset in Henry Bay, the last night of the trip.

In Comox. We got a kick out of seeing a Barber Shop, Art Gallery, and Post Office in one building.

Jeanette and I had to wait a few hours for the ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles, WA.
We had a great time walking around. This is the government building in Victoria.
Great tourist town with horse and buggy rides, etc.

The Empress Hotel in Victoria.

Victoria was full of flowers and (a) beautiful women (woman).
