Jeanette in cabin the night before the big hike. Started hiking at 5:30 AM the next morning.

Looking down the North Kaibab trail into the Canyon - when it got light enough!

Still early morning with the trail in the background

One of the many fascinating places on the trail

We followed a stream most of the way into the Canyon

Incredible rock formations were all around as we hiked

Half way down to the Colorado River

Pictures can't capture the heights that rose all around us

We hiked in a narrow slot canyon for an hour or so

We were thankful for the sturdy bridge that crossed the Colorado River

We saw about 10 rafts on the muddy river

We were still smiling after the long hike down (after resting and having lunch); what about after hiking up?

It was warm at the bottom - mid 80s

Starting up the south rim

The Bright Angel trail didn't seem as closed in a canyon as the north side

Wish we would have had time to enjoy the rock formations!

Now they tell me! :-) [We knew, and were prepared.]

The red rock was pretty; shadows getting longer in the later afternoon

The canyon walls loomed large all around

Looking back on the trail as we ascended the south rim

Getting near the top of the South Rim

Almost done!

Hard to believe we came all the way from the other side! 12 hours to go 24 miles. We were proud of our accomplishment.
